Summary of Homo Deus Book by Prof. Yuval Noah Harari

Short summary
In this summary, Prof. Yuval Noah Harari, a world-renowned historian and bestselling author, silences the popular apocalyptic predictions and paints a clearer picture of humanity’s chances in the third millennium and future. He argues that the human race developed to the point that it created gods and will, in turn, become gods themselves. The role of technology in humanity’s development is more apparent today than it was some years ago.
“Home Deus” refers to the next phase of human evolution from flesh and blood to a form that incorporates technology with our bodies. Professor Harari is a firm believer that humanity has outgrown the need to look to the heavens for gods; he believes that man can be God.
Professor Yuval Noah Harari is an Israeli public intellectual, historian, and professor in the Department of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is the author of the popular science bestseller “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind.”
“The most common reaction of the human mind to achievement is not satisfaction but craving for more.” ~ Prof. Yuval Noah Harari

Humans have come a long way in establishing themselves at the top of the food chain. But, as noted by Professor Harari, humans have always struggled to protect themselves from unfavorable conditions and factors that could cripple their growth.
And even though we got over some threats, others have historically forced the human race to the brink of collapse. Some of these threats include famine, poverty, and war, and they continue to remain focal conversations in our world even today. Prof. Yuval Noah Harari confirms that while there is originality in humanity’s travails, there is a lack of importance in how effective humans have become skilled in overcoming its nemesis mentioned above.
We do not become satisfied by leading a peaceful and prosperous existence. Instead, we become happy when reality matches our expectations. The bad news is that as conditions improve, expectations balloon. ~ Prof. Yuval Noah Harari
This response supersedes humans’ previous approach — blaming the chaos on an attempt by a deity or God to punish humankind. In the last few years, we have owned our failures, and we work relentlessly to learn from them, build infrastructures that would prevent future occurrences, and fixate on the next significant threat or challenge.
With the advent of technology, humanity has been able to contain more disasters and save more lives as well.
There is enough proof suggesting that the human race has successfully stopped the devastating effects of historical apocalyptic elements. However, with this success comes a vacuum that needs to get filled. What will humans do with all the knowledge and technology at their disposal when there are no new challenges or obstacles to tackle?
Usually, the human race will continue to stretch its limits and widen its horizons to find the next phase of its evolution. In this summary, Prof. Yuval Noah Harari hints that humans will probably base their next evolutionary quest on finding happiness, immortality, and divinity.

The things that will drive humanity’s future existence
Humanity will seek to establish immortality, happiness, and divinity in the future. Although this reality is still several years away, the world we live in today has begun to lay the foundation for it. This is why doctors tell patients all their health conditions. Billions of dollars have been invested in creating new drugs and improving the efficiency of nanotechnology and other technologies that can give humans an edge over death.
In this thought-provoking book, a renowned professor explores the future of humanity. Drawing on history and cutting-edge science, the author delves into the potential paths that Homo sapiens may take in the coming years. From advancements in technology to the rise of artificial intelligence, this captivating exploration challenges our understanding of what it means to be human and offers a glimpse into the possibilities that lie ahead.

I've gotten multiple books out of the library with the intent to read them, but always have a hard time finding the time. This app has helped me finally be able to get to them. Summarized, yes, and thank goodness too! Just short enough I can finish one on my way picking kids up from school/practice, or while I'm cooking dinner. I can't wait to listen to them over the summer when we visit the beach!

It amazed me! There is the possibility to highlight the most important points of each book and instantly translate unfamiliar vocabulary. With the ability to review the searched words. It's a great way to learn more about English as well. The price is great.

I’m enjoying what I’m learning on headway.each summary comes with quotes at the end which you can save to help you remember key points. You can listen or read, I’ve found that reading puts me to sleep before I can finish but the listening feature keeps me engaged and I can finish in a brief amount of time if not one session.

Exactly what I need! I always have booklist to read, but can't committed enough to finish/start bc of too much pages. Headway is really helpful and concise with their summary. What I love the most is that the essence of the book is well crafted, so I don't only read the key points, but also there's the story and how personality of the author still well shown through the summary. Well done!
