Summary of Antifragile

4.5 . 5306 reviews

Short summary

In the modern world, we are severely against stress of any kind. We seek to eliminate stressors from our environment and create a space of perfect tranquility when we should be taking advantage of the benefits stress gives us. Antifragile is a tidbit that shows us how to use stressors for the greater good. Nassim Nicholas Taleb is a Lebanese American essayist, statistician, and risk analyst. In 2008, he became a professor at New York University, shortly after inclusion on Forbes Magazine’s Most Influential Management Guru list. In 2008, Taleb won the Wolfram Innovator Award for using mathematics to contribute to decision-making, and in 2014, he became a co-editor of the academic journal Risk and Decision Analysis. “Abundance is harder for us to handle than scarcity.” ~ Nassim Nicholas Taleb

The word fragile had no direct antonyms, so Nassim Nicholas Taleb called its opposite antifragile. Antifragility is different from resilience or robustness in that resilient objects do not change after a shock. Antifragile goods, on the other hand, improve when exposed to shock. For example, Wolff’s law asserts that when bones are exposed to external strain, they become stronger. Antifragility is useful when dealing with the unknown since it allows you to accomplish things you don’t comprehend.
Antifragility demonstrates that humans are generally better at acting than contemplating.
Taleb divides the earth and all that exists into these three groups:
• Fragile
• Antifragile
• Robust

Disorder terrifies fragile individuals because it threatens to destabilize their life. Antifragile people become stronger, more innovative, and better in the face of adversity and can adapt to new situations. Robust people can withstand unexpected events without shifting or altering who they are.

In this summary, you will discover what antifragility is and how to apply it to different aspects of your life, including how to thrive in an unpredictable environment.
You may never know what type of person someone is unless they are given opportunities to violate moral or ethical codes. ~ Nassim Nicholas Taleb
second key point

Antifragility is a property of anything that experiences more benefits than disadvantages as a result of chance events

If a vulnerable object is sent through the mail, the term “fragile” is printed all over it to protect the item. It’s also true that when we’re under stressful situations, we become fragile because we’re far more likely to make bad decisions or snap under pressure. We perceive stress as something we should avoid, but it's not always the case; stress can occasionally become a motivator.

Headway is the answer! No longer accumulating books I never read. With Headway, I initially chose the areas important to me such as productivity, time management, etc., and each day I'm provided several book summaries from which I devote 20 minutes or more each day reading. All of this on my phone! My life has improved with Headway. Truly my most useful app.

In today’s world, we rarely have time. Between our jobs, our families are social obligations, when do we have time to grow and develop ourselves? Headway is an excellent app that gives you that time it gives you those little snippets of information that you need to direct your focus in on your life. Headway gives you a chance to find out the meat of a book that you might want to purchase and read or listen to in-depth without wasting a lot of time trying to figure out is this book for me? I highly recommend the app.

I've gotten multiple books out of the library with the intent to read them, but always have a hard time finding the time. This app has helped me finally be able to get to them. Summarized, yes, and thank goodness too! Just short enough I can finish one on my way picking kids up from school/practice, or while I'm cooking dinner. I can't wait to listen to them over the summer when we visit the beach!

It amazed me! There is the possibility to highlight the most important points of each book and instantly translate unfamiliar vocabulary. With the ability to review the searched words. It's a great way to learn more about English as well. The price is great.

I’m enjoying what I’m learning on headway.each summary comes with quotes at the end which you can save to help you remember key points. You can listen or read, I’ve found that reading puts me to sleep before I can finish but the listening feature keeps me engaged and I can finish in a brief amount of time if not one session.

Exactly what I need! I always have booklist to read, but can't committed enough to finish/start bc of too much pages. Headway is really helpful and concise with their summary. What I love the most is that the essence of the book is well crafted, so I don't only read the key points, but also there's the story and how personality of the author still well shown through the summary. Well done!
